what do you believe?
The best answer is to go to our Beliefs page and read for yourself. But in short, we hold to the Baptist Faith and Message of 2000. We also believe that the Gospel is for all people. It is our goal to remove all obstacles that prevent someone coming to the cross except the cross itself. The Gospel message CANNOT be compromised in any way. We also support strongly the cooperative program including but not limited to, the IMB, NAMB, SB Disaster Relief, SB Adoption fund, BCM, and Lifeway.
won't people be mad if you call them geeks?
No, In fact most people into sci-fi, fantasy, superheroes etc actually take pride in geek-ing out. (Just look at their superhero and Star Wars t-shirts!)
are there really enough people in this area to start a church like this?
Our answer to that is to simply look around you. Every street corner has a Gamestop, in addition to that there are an exceptional number of privately owned Comic book stores, video game stores, and hobby stores in the greater Memphis area. Not to mention the local events, Tennessee Comic Con (https://tenncomiccon.com/), Memphis comic expo (http://www.memphiscomicexpo.com/), Mid-South Renaissance Fair (https://midsouthrenfaire.com/) to name a few. So they are here! The question is whether or not the church will try to reach them.
are you an online church?
NO. If you live locally then you are not allowed to become a member of our church without attending in person the regular corporate worship and a guild (small group) meeting regularly. HOWEVER, we do want to offer online membership to those that may be joining us from other parts of the country (or even the world). We hope to organize such people first into online guilds (small groups) monitored by a pastor. Then into local guilds as we get clusters of people in the same area. Then to use our resources to plant other Level Up Churches in other cities by sending out trained men with our support. Ideally no one will be stuck in online membership indefinitely.
shouldn't these people grow up and come to a normal church?
It is a terrible development when the church stops innovating and simply says grow up and be a good person. We always hail those missionaries that are able to creatively and lovingly adapt to a foreign culture and deliver the Gospel in a fashion in which people can understand and respond. This is no different. As long as the GOSPEL and the scripture is not negotiable,(and it isnt) we need not fear innovation within our own culture. The people we are targeting at Level Up Church generally would not fit in at a normal church but can respond to the gospel given in love just like anyone else. This sub-culture must be reached!
is this church only for geeks?
ALL ARE WELCOME! While we certainly have a target demographic we welcome everyone interested in pursuing a relationship with Jesus.
if i #jointhe400! what will my money go towards?
The purpose of #Join the 400! is to be perpetually involved in church planting. It will support our initial church plant but in time we hope to become self-sustaining and use the money from #Join the 400! to plant another Level Up Church in another city, and then another after that and so on.
